Who Really Discovered America
The question arose, as I watched the History channel over the weekend, of "Who Really Discovered America." For some reason this has been playing in the back of my mind since then. One thing is for certain, it was not Christopher Columbus in 1492. Yet, that’s who is credited with this discovery.
This, even though the land was indeed inhabited, at the time of the ‘discovery,’ which would imply that he was neither the first, nor did he "find" America. For, to those who lived here, it was not lost.
One definition of discover is "to be ‘first’ to find or learn something," like discovering a cure for cancer. Most of the definitions include the words "find" or "first" symbolizing a lack of knowledge until understanding or familiarity is first realized.
As I watched the program which dated early travel to America as far back as the B.C. years I could not help but to wonder why the word "discovered" was ever brought into the dialogue.
From Chinese, to Japanese to Welsh, Polynesians, Norse, Irish, Ancient Hebrews, Vikings to any number of seafaring men of many nationalities, an ‘addiction’ that gets into the blood of men who love the sea, had probably landed on the shores from what is now California, to Alabama to New York, at different times throughout history and as far back as it is possible to go where the knowledge of building boats was realized.
The real question is was this land always occupied and if so where did those people come from. More importantly, how do you "discover" a land already occupied and how far will, Americans go to protect the lies they want to tell about our history. While I am not Muslim, these words in the following YouTube clip strike a cord of truth and relevancy.
However, just as extreme as the lies Americans tell, after watching this clip, I watched another clip of how Muslims/Arabs, because of large donations, have attempted to throw their own twists into the educational structure of children here in the United States and as I listened to this video and the criticism given this attempt, I could not help but wonder if this was not the pot calling the kettle black.
I was at a little hotdog stand the other day for lunch and I ended up in a conversation with a black Muslim attempting to get me to take one of their newspapers – I guess he thought he was going to enlighten me because after the conversation he said to me, as though shocked, "I see you understand the issues" – well yeah, I have been in the world for a while and I always try to see things clearly.
The conversation drifted to reparations for black Americans. He spent a lot of time taking about how Jewish people "got paid" and while he failed to mention it, Indians/native Americans "got paid" as well but neither can be used to imply that black Americans will capitalize on this giving mentality.
Lies are lies, be it Eurocentric, the lies I was raised on which do not leave room for reparations, Islamic or any other lie and what has been found is that history books, here in America, contain numerous ‘errors/lies’.
In the total picture of American history, blacks were stolen from their homeland, forced into slavery, dehumanized, murdered, raped, robbed of their identities while the concept of ‘family’ was ripped from them by using separation of family as a means of discipline and control, left out of history books except as a side note and are still waiting on reparations from a people that still show visible distain for their very existence. This is relevant history of this country, this is my history.
Yet, none of this is discussed in any detail in the history books that our children "learn" from and I am sure the history of the first black President will be whitewashed or misinterpreted as already, the accusations of Obama being everything from the second coming of Christ to the anti-Christ with a political agenda of bringing socialism to America. Yes, as I sit here writing this I find myself again shaking my head at this reality.
Now we are faced with history in the making with the election of this first black President. With raised voices that are getting louder shouting the cry of "let’s take back our government" now that there is a black man in the position of President of the United States – coincidental, I think not.
With all of the inaccuracies and half truths such as the ‘fact’ that Christopher Columbus ‘discovered’ America in 1492, that we, as a country, have allowed in history books this video implies that stronger standards and scholars be used in the dissemination of information allowed in text books to keep "outsiders" from, in essence rewriting American history to be more inclusive and possibly more accurate. It’s ok for Americans to teach lies but ‘outsiders’ have no right.
Why is it even important who discovered America we are living in what has now become America and though many are trying to claim the honor of discovery, Native Americans were already here.
Don’t get me wrong, I do not hate the Eurocentric version but I do recognize the inaccuracies that I was brought up on. I do not hate the perpetrators of the deception, abuse and inequality because as I listen to them shouting with rage "let’s take back our government," I hear the fear in the voices and somehow this is comforting to me.
I am but an innocent observer passing through this life, it is what it is, a society based on lies, arrogance, greed, divisions, hate, corruption and the blood of Native Americans and blacks – no allusions, just fact and the question of "Who Really Discovered America" has not been answered and truly is not relevant to where we are at this space in time.
America - the melting pot of all those who have come before - Don't you just love it!!!
And that’s the way I see it!!!
